Every story has a beginning, and ours starts with a man who made everything better with his presence, his laughter, and his love for good food.
My late uncle, Tio Joe, who we lost to COVID, was the coolest, smartest, sweetest uncle any person could ever ask for. He was always there, always ready to help, and always had a way of making you smile.
Tio Joe: "Hey mijo, do you need a taste tester?"
Me: "Absolutely, Tio!"
Tio Joe: "Let me try a chicken leg."
Me: "You got it!"
Tio Joe: "Boy that sure is good BBQ even tho!"
Everything Tio Joe said always ended with "even tho" — it was his signature phrase, his way of adding that special touch to every conversation.
When I had to change the name of my business, I knew exactly what it had to be. Even Tho BBQ — a name that honors the man who meant everything to me. The character you see in our logo? That's Tio Joe, captured in a cartoon that celebrates his spirit, his joy, and the way he made everyone around him feel special.
He's truly missed, but his memory lives on in every plate we serve, every event we cater, and every time someone asks about our name. Even Tho BBQ isn't just a business — it's a tribute to a man who taught us that the best things in life come with love, laughter, and a little bit of "even tho."
